![]() (Pro-tip: during the summer, buy an Empire Pass, which includes parking at Jones Beach and Planting Fields, as well as many other state parks and preserves). Look closely, and you might spot some dolphins or a whale frolicking out in the distance. Jones Beach Boardwalk (Wantagh) - I love walking or riding my bike down the four-mile boardwalk at Jones Beach, particularly during the off-season, when the beaches are empty. In the evenings when all the students have gone home, the bunnies take over the campus. ![]() There are sculptures scattered throughout the property, a pond, and hiking trails.Īdelphi University (Garden City) - Adelphi is just down the street from my house, and it used to be a ritual of mine to take the kids over there after dinner to run off some energy before bed. Nassau County Museum of Art(Roslyn) - I've honestly only been inside the museum once, but the grounds are stunning and free to roam. It is beautiful, clean, and has wonderful views of the surrounding area - sometimes you can see all the way to the city! Levy Park and Preserve(Merrick) - This park makes me feel like I am hiking in Los Angeles again. I’ve lived nearby for years now and didn't know it was there until fairly recently. From an NYC (and San Francisco before that) expat, here are a few of my favorite places that I've discovered here in Nassau County: OUTDOORSY SPOTS:Ĭentennial Gardens(Floral Park) - A beautiful little Floral Park community garden built in an old storm drain.
